The fun part about playing in a band is working with other people who bring all their own interests, influences, experiences and personalities to the mix. Everyone throws in their two cents and the sum total is much greater than the parts.
In Tir Na Nog's case, the stoic, taciturn bass player is balanced by the wry humour of the mustachioed percussionist. The fiddle player is focused and aware. His smooth playing belies the fact he started out life as a metalhead. The whistle player's stylish presence is reflected in her whistle playing and her love of Gillian Welch's music is heard in her voice.
The lead singer motivates the band with his guitar, trying not to bump into people, occasionally breaking into a grin. He wants to swing his arm like a windmill, but knows it's not allowed. The second guitarist trades licks with the first, always eager to fill in the spaces, smiling, mixing Classical and Blues all on one guitar.
